The traditional tussie-mussie is composed of fragrant herbs surrounding one central flower,a rose. Please bring some flowers, greenery & herbs from your garden (Helen will supply some materials) and take home a beautiful "tussie-mussie".

Book Review - The Greatest Knight by Elizabeth Chadwick

Lovers of historical fiction must read Elizabeth Chadwick.

Her novels are steeped in historic detail and well researched, they have an authentic ring to them. She really brings history to life. Chadwick has written two stand alone books about one of England's most honourable men and greatest leaders - William Marshal - Earl of Pembroke and later Regent of England. The Greatest Knight covers William's early life where he starts as a household knight and tourney champion yet rises to a magnate and co-ruler whilst Richard the Lionheart is away on crusade.

Review provided by one of our Montrose staff members.

Book Review - Forbidden Fruit

Forbidden Fruit by Kerry Greenwood

This is the 5th book in a series. The main character is a baker in Melbourne so all the action is set around in streets you can kind of relate to. She is investigating a missing young couple and there are lots of twists along the way. The books are very amusing and all of the characters are a little bit eccentric.

Staff Book Reviews - The Peasant Prince

On a regular basis I'll be adding reviews written by Montrose and Mt Evelyn staff of books both junior and adult they have read and DVD's they have seen.

The following is by one of our Montrose staff:-

Many adults have read and loved Mao's Last Dancer and are now enjoying the movie on the big screen. Did you know he has also written a special Picture Book version for children ?

The Peasant Prince by Li Cunxin
Illustrated by Anne Spudvilas

This is the true story of Li Cunxin's life. When he is just a small, peasant boy he is taken away from everything he's ever known, his loving family and life in a poor Chinese village. He is so afraid, but his mother urges him to follow his dreams. He has been chosen to train as a dancer, one of the finest dancers in the world. His journey of courage, hard work and determination finally sees him succeed as a world-famous ballet dancer. It is a very moving story, matched by its illustrations. Anne Spudvilas studied traditional Chinese brush painting to create the illustrations that are full of movement and emotion.

A beautifully produced picture book described by many as a fairytale. It won the Children's Book Council of Australia Award last year for : 2008 Honour Book - in the Picture Book category.

It is suitable for 6 years +

ERL has copies and you can reserve it for free!

Suzanne
